Gympie Regional Council has completed a feasibility study to assess the potential for developing a nationally significant mountain bike facility in the Mary Valley.
The study explored whether such a facility could be viable, sustainable, and aligned with the needs of the local community, visitors, and the broader region. It considered factors including potential locations, environmental constraints, economic benefits, infrastructure requirements, and community interest.
Community input played an important role in shaping the study. Feedback was invited to help understand local aspirations, identify opportunities and concerns, and test whether a facility of this scale would be supported and used by residents and visitors.
A nationally significant mountain bike facility typically includes a connected network of purpose-built trails catering to a wide range of abilities, from beginner to competition standard. These facilities are designed to attract riders from across the state and country and may include supporting infrastructure and amenities capable of hosting events and contributing to regional tourism and economic activity.
