Public Interest Review of Proposed New Local Laws
Council is proposing a number of updates to its Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws, including a new Aerodromes Local Law. These changes are intended to modernise requirements, improve clarity for Council and affected community stakeholders, and better manage impacts on community health, safety and amenity.
Some of the proposed changes may affect how certain activities or businesses operate. Where proposed local laws may restrict competition, Council is required under the Local Government Act 2009 to undertake a Public Interest Review (PIR) before the laws can be finalised. This process helps Council understand whether the benefits of the proposed provisions outweigh any potential impacts, and whether there are reasonable alternative ways to achieve the same outcomes.
Council wants to hear from residents, local businesses and organisations about the potential impacts of the proposed changes, any costs or compliance burdens they might create, and whether there are reasonable alternatives that could achieve the same community benefits.

The departments invited to provide feedback include:

- Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation
- Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning
