Consultation has closed.

Council will now review all feedback received and prepare a Public Interest Review Outcomes Report, including recommendations on whether the identified provisions should be retained, amended or removed.

Council is proposing a number of updates to its Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws, including a new Aerodromes Local Law. These changes are intended to modernise requirements, improve clarity for Council and affected community stakeholders, and better manage impacts on community health, safety and amenity.

Some of the proposed changes may affect how certain activities or businesses operate. Where proposed local laws may restrict competition, Council is required under the Local Government Act 2009 to undertake a Public Interest Review (PIR) before the laws can be finalised. This process helps Council understand whether the benefits of the proposed provisions outweigh any potential impacts, and whether there are reasonable alternative ways to achieve the same outcomes.

Council wants to hear from residents, local businesses and organisations about the potential impacts of the proposed changes, any costs or compliance burdens they might create, and whether there are reasonable alternatives that could achieve the same community benefits.

Alongside community consultation, the proposed local laws are also subject to a State interest review. This involves inviting relevant Queensland Government departments to review the proposed laws to ensure they align with State legislation, policy and responsibilities. The departments invited to provide feedback include:

  • Department of Transport and Main Roads
  • Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation
  • Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning
  • Department of Primary Industries
  • Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers

Submissions were originally scheduled to close at 5:00pm on 27 February 2026. To allow additional time for community input, this timeframe was extended and closed at 5:00pm on 13 March 2026.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Gympie Regional Council’s proposed Local Laws and Subordinate Local Laws.

This survey forms part of Council’s Public Interest Review (PIR), which is a legislated process required when proposed local laws may affect how businesses operate or compete. The purpose of this review is to understand whether the proposed provisions are in the overall public interest.

To keep feedback focused, meaningful and easy to assess, we are asking you to respond to three key questions only. You may answer one, two or all three questions, depending on your experience and knowledge.

Your responses will help Council understand potential impacts, identify any unintended consequences, and consider whether there are reasonable alternatives that could achieve the same community benefits.

    Please note:

    • This is not a vote or a general satisfaction survey.
    • Council retains statutory decision-making authority.
    • All submissions will be reviewed and summarised in a Public Interest Review Outcomes Report.

We encourage you to be as specific as possible and, where relevant, to describe impacts from your perspective as a resident, business owner or stakeholder.
