The first stage of community engagement has now been completed. From February to April 2026, Council engaged with community members in Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove through an online survey and a range of in-person activities, including pop-ups, walkshops and drop-in sessions.

The purpose of this engagement was to better understand how people currently walk within both townships, including what is working well, where gaps or barriers exist, and what improvements the community would like Council to consider over time.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their feedback and local knowledge. The feedback received has helped inform the draft Walking Network Plans for Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove.

The key findings from this engagement are summarised in the Engagement Summary document, which can be viewed here.

The draft Walking Network Plans are also now available for review.

These plans identify key walking routes, missing links and priority improvements to help guide future planning, investment and grant funding applications.

What happens next?

The draft Walking Network Plans will be presented to Council for endorsement over the coming months.

Once endorsed, the plans will help Council progress future funding applications for the construction of identified priority footpath connections.

During consultation, the community also identified a number of improvements to existing footpaths. These will be considered through Council’s footpath renewal program, which is prioritised for delivery over the coming years.

Other supporting improvements, such as seating along existing footpaths, will also be assessed and prioritised as part of future planning and budget considerations.
