What areas does the plan cover?

The plan covers foreshore areas along the Cooloola Coast, as well as some surrounding land owned or managed by Council within the broader foreshore area. In simple terms, it is about the coastal public land and adjoining Council-managed areas that help shape how the foreshore is protected, used and managed over time.

Council does not manage State land or marine waters, or areas below the highest astronomical tide (HAT).

What is the Cooloola Coast Foreshore Reserves Management Plan?

The plan helps guide how Council manages and cares for foreshore reserve areas along the Cooloola Coast over time. It sets the overall direction for how these areas should be protected, used and managed into the future.

The current 2019 plan is directs the management of specific coastal reserves within the Gympie region and setting the management intent and vision for those areas, consistent with Council policy and relevant State and Federal legislation

Why is Council reviewing the plan?

Council is reviewing the plan to make sure it still reflects current community values, local issues and priorities, and continues to support the long-term management of the foreshore reserves. This review is also an opportunity to check that the plan still provides a useful guide for how these areas are protected, used and managed over time.

What sort of feedback is Council looking for and how will it be used?

Council wants to hear what matters most to people about the foreshore reserves, including how these areas are used, what people value, any issues or concerns, and what should be considered in the updated plan. Feedback received will be reviewed as part of the plan update and will help inform the next version of the plan.

Does this plan lock in future works or upgrades?

No. The management plan helps set the overall direction for how these areas should be managed, protected and used over time. It does not automatically commit Council to specific projects or funded works.
