24 February 2026 - PRG Meeting Summary
Gympie Regional Council’s Civic Centre Revitalisation Project continues to progress, with the Precinct Reference Group (PRG) meeting on 24 February.
This was the first meeting for community PRG members to come together with precinct partners and Council to meet one another and start building a shared understanding of the project, the role of the PRG and the future opportunities for the Civic Centre precinct.
Discussions focussed on project priorities, community expectations and the important future role of the venue. Members shared strong personal connections to the Civic Centre, reflecting on decades of school performances, concerts, community celebrations, conferences and emergency response uses. This feedback reinforced the Civic Centre’s significance as a much-loved community asset and highlighted the shared ambition to see it reopened as a modern, welcoming and vibrant hub for the region.
The group also discussed the practical work underway to future-proof the facility for generations to come. While the project retains the existing building footprint, it will deliver major upgrades to accessibility, safety, compliance, technical capability and visitor experience. Improvements will support the venue’s multiple roles as a performing arts centre, civic gathering place and disaster response facility. The PRG will continue to provide community-informed feedback about the services, operating model and design elements of the precinct, helping Council ensure the revitalised Civic Centre reflects local needs, celebrates its history and is ready for a strong future reopening.
